As today is Father’s Day, I will provide an interesting piece of patriarchal trivia: Did you know that Ronald Reagan was the last U.S. president to not be named after either his father or his grandfather?
George H. W. Bush was named after his maternal grandfather, George Herbert Walker.
William Jefferson Clinton was named after his birth father, William Jefferson Blythe, Jr.
George W. Bush, though not a junior, was clearly named after his father, George H. W. Bush.
(Reagan is also the last president whose father doesn’t have his own Wikipedia page. Coincidence?)
Interestingly, this trend will almost certainly continue through 2008, since both major-party candidates (Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. and John Sidney McCain III) and the leading minor-party candidate (Robert Laurence Barr, Jr.) are all named after their fathers. If you’re interested in breaking the trend, note that neither Ralph Nader or Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin are juniors. (I wasn’t able to determine whether they’re named after their respective grandfathers.)
Since all you really come here for are cute baby pix, I have included a picture of Pru decked out in her Flag Day best after the break.
So glad to see that ya’ll celebrated Flag Day!!
Travelling by bus will take a very long time on this route (google for Eurolines ) easiest and fasstet way will be to use the plane (for example for about 350 Euros with Lufthansa via Germany) or by Train then you have to use the TGV high speed bullet train of french railway via Switzerland (swiss railwail network is SBB) to get to Salzburg both of them have websites in english). You also can go by train via Italy, but this is more complicated due to the fact, that between Marseille and Salzburg are the Alps.
I agree with you that the demand of the 7 billion people really does drive the actions of the 1%. They keep mining and polluting and damaging the world simply because there is a huge profit in it for them. The 7 billion people are indirectly causing issues, too, and that can’t be ignored in the grand scheme of things. It’s hard to ask that many people to consume less, especially in developed nations that are based on unnecessary consumption, but that is the direction we need to go. I think in order for change to actually happen, though, the big companies need to find more efficient and sustainable methods, while trying to phase out certain practices that are harming the environment (coal mining!).
Thanks for that! It’s just the answer I needed.
dear prudy, why are you always naked? love, nellie
