Having watched one and a half debates tonight, I’m pretty much OD’d on change. Romney believes in change. Huckabee believes in change. Obama believes in change. Edwards believes in change, and believes that Obama believes in change. Hilary has fought for change for 35 years. Richardson “loves” change… If I may quote Bank of America: keep the change.
While watching coverage of the Iowa caucuses:
Guy running a caucus: “Alright everybody, now we’re going to break up into our preference groups”
Angus (using his Zapp Brannigan voice): “…our sexual preference groups?”
Sarah: “I thought he said breakfast groups.”
Angus: “… our sexual breakfast groups?”

A brief foray into politics: Am I the only one who thinks there’s something slightly incongruous about the fact that Huckabee, the erstwhile champion of downscale and working-class Republican voters, is spending the night before the Iowa Caucuses crossing a picket line? I mean, I know the Writers’ Guild isn’t exactly the United Mine Workers, but still.
UPDATE: It seems that Huckabee didn’t realize he’d be crossing a picket line, thinking that Leno, like Letterman, had cut a separate deal with the Writers’ Guild. (Letterman, who owns his own show, can do this; NBC owns the Tonight Show, so Leno can’t cut his own deal.) Just more evidence that, his enormous skills as a retail politician notwithstanding, Huckabee isn’t ready for primetime. Or late night, for that matter.

Some people (notably people who don’t have infants at home themselves) have politely requested more posting. We admit posting has been light, chiefly because a certain denizen of Dwyeropolis hasn’t been doing much of this lately:

And of course, when the baby doesn’t sleep (or, more to the point, doesn’t sleep unless she’s being gently cradled in the arms of one of her parents as she paces quietly about a dimly lit living room) we don’t sleep. And when we don’t sleep, taking cute pictures of the baby and posting them online with witty anecdotes takes a back burner to not going on shooting rampages.

Pru had her one-month checkup this week. Everything looks pretty good.
Her vital statistics:
Length: 20.5 inches (28th percentile)
Weight: 9 lb. 11 oz. (66th percentile)
Head Circumference: 38.5 cm (82nd percentile)
Plus, she’s developing good neck-muscle skills and decent eye-focusing skills (both of which have improved markedly in the last few days).

Best. Gift. Ever. Thanks, Tripp.

Three belated thoughts on the Mitchell Report (list of players implicated here):
1) I’m shocked to see John Rocker‘s name on the list. All this time, I’d assumed the near-psychotic rage he displayed on and off the field was all-natural, the result of a carefully cultivated disdain for all persons other than John Rocker and a native chemical imbalance in his brain. To learn now that he was supplementing these with ‘roid rage-inducing banned substances really shatters some of the ol’ cherished illusions.
2) The obvious big winner from the whole business is Barry Bonds. Because now anyone who was planning to vote against his admission to Cooperstown on the grounds that he cheated is going to have to do the same to Roger Clemens (and someday potentially for Miguel Tejada) or admit that they’re voting against Bonds because he’s a world-class @$$hole (clearly not a technically disqualifying factor).
3) The less-obvious big winner is Ken Griffey, Jr. Not just because he was (along with Alex Rodriguez) the best hitter of his era who was not juicing, but because revisionist baseball historians are going to look back on all those injury-addled years with the Reds and regard his decision not to pull an Andy Pettitte and use a banned substance “just” to get back on the field as especially worthy.
